IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING LEED:
IMPORTANT NOTICE for TFM (Thermo Fused Melamine) commonly known as “Melamine” and how it applies to IEQ 4.4 NAUFi requirements.
TFM (Thermo Fused Melamine) commonly known as “Melamine” panels are typically used for the interiors (semi-exposed surfaces) of cabinets in commercial casework projects.
TFM (Melamine) is made by pressing a resign impregnated paper to a panel core and the resigns in the paper thermally fuses itself to the core.
Unlike Plastic laminatei (Plam) or formally known as HPDL (high pressure decorative laminate), TFM melamine paper overlays are traditionally treated with an amount of (UF) urea formaldehydei resigns. Once the panel is cured, the top surface registers little to no difference than panels made with papers treated with 100% (MF) melamine formaldehyde.
Thus there is a debate in the industry and within AP’s if the impregnated papers used as the top decorative surface of these same melamine panels need to also be 100% NAUF like the NAUF compositei core in order to meet IEQ4.4.
Treating papers with 100% (MF) melamine formaldehyde is more expensive than those treated fully or partially with Urea Formaldehyde (UF).
To compound issues - Mfgs and treaters of decorative papers for TFM that contain amounts of (UF) Urea Formaldehyde have made modifications so they can legally modify MSDS sheets to eliminate the term “urea” , and simply list “formaldehyde”.
Due to this - we offer 2 certified products:
The Typical NAUF Industry TFM Melamine Panel - PureKori TFM Melamine Panels. Where we certify the core alone is NAUF. Or
For a Total NAUF TFM Melamine Panel - PureKor TFM 100% Melamine Panels where the core and overlay treatment are certified to be NAUF.
