McKillican American Inc., one of North America’s largest building products distributors has completed the acquisition of the assets of Panel Source International (PSI). Started in the 1990’s, PSI has become one of the leading suppliers of sustainable and environmentally friendly wood products, including pressure and fire treated construction gradeⁱ lumber and plywood.

As sustainable green building and development practices grow, the acquisition of PSI will enhance McKillican’s position to achieve our goal of becoming the leading source of eco-friendly wood products that are specified and used in green building standards, such as LEED. The acquisition of PSI will expand our reach into the Lumber & Building Material Dealer (LBM) and Commercial Builder segment which is PSI’s primary market.

While the above headline would normally signal bad news, quite the opposite is true at Panel Source.

We are pleased to announce that industry veteran, Rick Grimm, has joined the growing ranks of Panel Source International, Inc.

Rick brings with him 30+ years in the compositeⁱ wood products industry. Having served in operations, sales and marketing, we believe that this will allow Rick to be successful in his new role as territory manager for California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Rick will be concentrating on Pyroblockⁱ and will be available for on site visits as customers trial the product.

Get ‘FSC for Free’ with Panel Source International

Panel Source International Inc. is happy to announce the successful implementation of the first ever ‘FSC for Free’ promotion, offered to Lumbermens Merchandising Corporation (LMC) dealers at LMC’s annual tradeshow held in Houston TX in the beginning of March.

In effort to promote the FSC brand and promote FSC products in the market place, Panel Source ran a random draw – the prize: Panel Source International will pay for the winner’s FSC chain-of-custody certification costs. Out of nearly a hundred entries, 30 LMC dealers were chosen to participate, and are working with Scientific Certification Systems.

Panel Source just returned from Greenbuild 2008 in Boston. The show was a resounding success, with a larger attendance than last year.

"Greenbuild is a great show because it is so focused", said James Mcleod, C.O.O, of Panel Source. "People are coming there on a mission, to find green products and service, so they must use their time effectively."

The USGBCⁱ did an excellent job this year from an organizational point of view.

"This show keeps getting better and better each year, with more people and companies getting interested in green building. It is truly exciting to go to Greenbuild, it energizes our whole company until the next show" says Mcleod.

Panel Source recently completed the annual auditing process for FSCⁱ Chain of Custodyⁱ certification.

Thanks to the ever expanding green market, Panel Source has upgraded our Washington warehouse location, to provide more space, better access and greater flexibility, including direct rail car loading and unloading.

Skyline Design, an Illinois-based architectural product design/art services and manufacturer, is using Purekorⁱ Platinumⁱ MDFⁱ as well as Purekor Hardwood Plywood in their new product, Greenplay TM, which is a line of children’s
furniture.

Last year Panel Source was given the opportunity to participate along with several other companies and FSCⁱ Canada in developing the Canuhome. This is essentially a green housing structure that incoporates many different green features. The Canuhome project has and is being showcased at various tradeshows, mainly in Ontario. The most recent show, The Green Living Show, held in Toronto was a huge success. More than 12,000 visitors toured the Canuhome.

Panel Source is pleased to announce that Purekorⁱ has been verified and accepted by Green Alberta. Green Alberta is an independent third party verifier of green products for use in the construction industry in Alberta.

Panel Source International, Inc., is pleased to announce the appointment of Glen Lowe to the position of Market Manager - Canada. Glen will be based out of the company’s head office in St. Albert, Alberta, and will manage Panel Source sales and marketing activities in Canada. This territory includes all Canada as well as export markets. The introduction of LEED Construction Rating Systems in Canada and certain off-shore markets have increased the demand for Panel Source’s PureKor® and Pyroblock® products.

With apologies to the creator of the hit TV series “CSI: Miami”, we are pleased to announce our own version - “PSI: Miami”. Panel Source is pleased to announce the appointment of Larry Musil as the company’s Market Manager-East. Larry will be operating from the company’s Eastern Region Sales Office, in Miami, Florida. Larry brings an extensive background in construction, design and forest products to Panel Source. As a university student, Larry graduated in architecture, and then went on to manage and expand the family’s millworkⁱ and veneer business.

Panel Source International is pleased to announce the opening of our fourth regional sales office. The new office, situated in Shell Lake, Wisconsin, will manage all Panel Source sales and marketing activities in the company’s Central Region, including the states of Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, Minnesota, Northern Michigan, North and South Dakota, Western Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Plywood buyers in the US have long lamented that there is virtually no supply of FSCⁱ Certified Southern Yellow Pine plywood available from domestic mills. Panel Source has listened to these concerns, and now has a exciting solution for these same customers: PureKor® Southern Import Pine Plywood.

Architects, designers, and builders have long complained that the supply of FSC Certified OSB was either non-existent, or in the few rare cases when it did become available, so expensively priced as to be prohibitive. As with so many other issues in the new world of green building, when problems occur, Panel Source provides answers.

Beautiful weather coupled with a great turn out made the Panel Source International Lakewood open house a success. The event, held at our Lakewood Warehouse, showcased PSI products to local manufacturers, distributors, and OEMⁱ's.

On June 1st, Panel Source moved "down the street" to our new head office location. With our business expanding so rapidly, we found it necessary to get some more space and, fortunately, a very attractive location became available, just a block away from our existing location, so on June 1st, we relocated to a new headquarters location. In January, Panel Source International published the first issue of the PSI Green Bulletin. It was aimed at individuals in a variety of positions, that are involved or interested in the 'green' building industry, and specifically the 'green' forest industry. While we expected the Green Bulletin to have a positive impact, we could not imagine how successful it would become.

Eight months ago...

It took us a long time, but Panel Source has finally developed a source for high quality Russian Birch plywood. Russian Birch has been very popular in North America since its introduction over 25 years ago. Russian birch is a multi-ply panel utilizing high gradeⁱ white birch veneer from the forests of Northern Russia. Now, it’s also a "green" product.

After nearly 18 months of searching, Panel Source has finally found what we consider to be the ideal "green" hardwood plywood product. Introducing "Green T" Hardwood Plywood - manufactured for Panel Source by one of the nation's leading forest products manufacturers, Timber Products.

From the beginning, Panel Source International has devoted a lot of attention to developing sources for LEED® Compliant forest products. As the size of the green building industry has increased, so has the demand for ever greater volumes of FSCⁱ Certified and Urea-Formaldehyde free forest products.

As our sales volume continues to expand, Panel Source has moved into a new warehouse facility in Lakewood, Washington. Located in the Seattle area, this new warehouse nearly triples the amount of indoor storage available for inventorying the wide selection of "green" forest products available from Panel Source. In addition, outside storage has increased by almost 100%.

In an on-going effort to provide accurate and timely information on green building in general, and "green" forest products in particular, Panel Source International has launched the first issue of the new PSI Green Bulletin. Available in both hard copy and electronic format, this four page update provides a wealth of information for architects, designers, OEMⁱ product manufacturers and anyone else interested in sustainable design and construction. PSI's Green Bulletin is issued at the beginning of each month.

Most of you are already familiar with our original Purekor® Particleboardⁱ - an industrial gradeⁱ and Urea-Formaldehyde free agri-fiber based particleboard.

Panel Source International Inc. is proud to announce that Ryan McNeil has successfully challenged the LEED® AP exam, and is now a LEED® Accredited Professional. LEED® AP designation is rare amongst product manufacturers, and having Ryan provide his LEED® expertise will provide a great new dynamic to Panel Source and a great service to its customers.

Panel Source at Greenbuild… Again this year Panel Source will be exhibiting at Greenbuild 2006. This years annual conference for the [weblink:27|US Green Building Council] is being held in Denver, CO from November 14-17. Visit Panel Sources booth at the entrance to the Certified Wood Pavilion.

The publishers of [weblink:108|Wood Digest] recently announced that Pyroblock® Fire Retardant Panels has been selected as one of the top 50 products chosen by wood workers. Pyroblock® will be featured in the publications “Woodworkers Choice Showcase” to be published in December 2006.

Panel Source International is pleased to announce that Steve Reister has joined the company effective July 1st, 2006. Steve, a 20 year veteran in forest products markets, is well known and respected for his outstanding product knowledge and commitment to customer service.
